Just Another Errand

Going to the library has just become another errand for me. I'll order the books I want on the computer from other libraries, and when they come in I will go and pick them up. I've found that even though my library is big, its selection is lacking. We got a new library over a year ago and I've hardly spen any time in the amazing new building.

Today I made a list of books I want to read in the coming weeks since over the weekend I made a nice dent in my stack of school reading. I ordered a few books that my library did not have, but I went to the library today and took several books off the shelves for the first time in my recent memory.

I haven't been browsing through my library ever! I will browse through bookstores and then be sad because I do not have the money to buy new books. My library had a lot of books and I can take out as many as I want for free, and yet I haven't browsed.

Forcing myself to check out booksfrom the shelves and not getting someone to put them on hold for me was a great thing today. I checked out a book that was not on my list and seriously considered getting more, but still, my stack is too huge.

Many of you complain about how many books you have on your shelves that you have not read. My complaint is that I want to check out so many books but I can only read so fast!

I don't want going to the library to be yet another errand. For those of you who participate in Library Loot, I challenge you this week to go to your library without a preset list or agenda and just browse. If you usually check out fiction books, head to the nonfiction section. Check out what the children's library has that you might like to read. Give yourself enough time to browse and you'll come out with more books than you have time for!

Oh I love browsing at my library. A book doesn't have to be 'new' to call to me. It doesn't even have to be new-to-me :)

I often go to the library with a list of one or two books--but with the intent to browse, browse, browse!

About 80-90% of everything I check out has never been written down on a 'to get' list beforehand. :)

I've been doing the same thing lately, using inter library loan to get books and then not spending time just wandering around. I liked this post, and I'm going to try to spend some time browsing next time I go in :)

Since my college days, going to the library definitely has turned into just another errand. First of all, my college's library was the largest in the state, so it's not like you're really going to go wander around that thing (though I suppose you could; I didn't). Then, the seminary I attended had a pretty rotten library, as it both stunk and was comprised of primarily books from the 50s. The local library I go to now is definitely a hopping place that I enjoy, but I'm still working off my to-read list, ordering books online, just like you said.
